at 7 pm at the Kunstverein Hannover
Since the beginning of the 1960s, Timm Ulrich has been working in Hanover, realizing a substantial part of his work in and around the city, at the Sprengel Museum and at the Kunstverein Hannover. To mark these 50 years of artistic practice (and his 70th birthday), the Sprengel Museum and the Kunstverein Hannover together will approach Timm Ulrich's work from a new angle. The cooperation between the two institutions, however, is no mere emphasis of Ulrich's chosen place of practice but will combine the historical and contemporary examination of his ouevre.
Timm Ulrich's actions, objects and installations not only have an undoubtable art historical impact but achieve a whole new level of relevance in the context of comtemporary art production. The translation of conceptual strategies into a social context and every-day life or the critical analysis of the role of the artist remain important subject to this day. Parallels with today's practice can also be found in Ulrich's careful analysis of language and the contextual use of the titles as commentary and therefore inherent part of the artwork, but also in his combination of humour and conceptual radicality. The idea of "romantic conceptualism", a term that has been used to discuss many contemporary works during the last few years, is already present in many of Timm Ulrich's early works. | 28.11.2010 – 13.02.2011 | | sponsors: | the Country of Lower Saxony
